embrace sustainability with pet resin
A Path Forward with Tricel Composites
WHY IS PET RESIN IMPORTANT?
In today’s fast-paced world, the drive towards sustainability is more imperative than ever. Companies across the globe are increasingly recognising the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices and materials.
For industries relying on composite materials such as resins and reinforcements, this transition benefits the environment and meets the growing consumer demand for sustainable products. PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) resin is one such material in this green revolution.
Tricel PET Resin Range
TriCure 19B721E (Recycled PET content between 27% – 33%)
TriCure 19B721E is a constructional, ecological resin with low styrene emission, terephthalic, accelerated. It incorporates recycled PET.
It has a colourful curing indicator system. It is recommended for the production of laminates with hand-lay or spray-up and can be used in the manufacturing of bathtubs, shower trays, tanks and floating equipment.
TriJect 13A351K (Recycled PET content between 27% – 33%)
TriJect 13A351K is a promoted, non-thixotropic general-purpose polyester resin containing recycled PET.
13A351K is custom-formulated for use in liquid moulding process applications for the construction of various composite parts. The product exhibits low exotherm and very good flow for fast-fill mould.

THE GREEN PET RESIN ADVANTAGE
PET resins are widely celebrated for their versatility, durability, and, crucially, their environmental benefits. Unlike traditional resins, PET resins offer a recyclable solution that significantly reduces waste and conserves resources. Here are some key advantages of PET resins:
- Recyclability: PET resins can be recycled multiple times without degrading in quality, making them an excellent choice for sustainable manufacturing.
- Lower Carbon Footprint: Producing PET resin requires less energy compared to other resin types, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
- Resource Efficiency: PET resins utilise raw materials more efficiently, often derived from post-consumer waste, supporting a circular economy.
Technical Aspects of PET Resins
Understanding the technical properties of PET resins is essential for appreciating their role in sustainable manufacturing. PET resins exhibit several characteristics that make them ideal for various industrial applications:
- Molecular Structure: PET is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family. Its molecular structure consists of repeating units of ethylene terephthalate, providing excellent strength and rigidity.
- Mechanical Properties: PET resins boast high tensile strength, impact resistance, and dimensional stability. These properties ensure that products made from PET are durable and maintain their integrity under stress.
- Thermal Properties: PET resins have a high melting point (approximately 260°C) and excellent thermal stability. This makes them suitable for applications that require resistance to high temperatures.
- Chemical Resistance: PET resins are resistant to a wide range of chemicals, including acids, bases, and solvents. This chemical resistance enhances their longevity and makes them suitable for various industrial environments.
- Transparency and Colouration: PET resins can be easily coloured or maintained in a transparent form, offering versatility in product design and aesthetics.
- Barrier Properties: PET provides excellent barrier properties against gases and moisture, making it an ideal material for packaging applications that require preservation of contents.
Applications of PET Resin
- Packaging: PET is extensively used in the packaging industry for bottles, containers, and films. Its clarity, strength, and barrier properties make it ideal for food and beverage packaging.
- Automotive: In the automotive sector, PET resins are used for manufacturing components such as interior trim parts, under-the-hood applications, and more, due to their durability and heat resistance.
- Textiles: PET is the primary material for polyester fibres, widely used in the textile industry for clothing, upholstery, and industrial fabrics.
- Electronics: The electronics industry uses PET resins in the production of various components, including casings and insulators, thanks to their electrical insulating properties.
